BCS, OU vs. Boise State

There's a lot of talk recently concerning OU's leap to the #1 BCS ranking even though they are ranked #3 in the AP poll (3 first place votes), with Boise State and Oregon ahead of them. On one hand, I think this makes sense. OU has had a difficult schedule this year and it's only getting tougher. Boise State's schedule is not as difficult and since margin of victory is disregarded, there's no comparison made between OU's 2 and 3 point victories over Boise State's double digit blowouts.

On the other hand, I feel for Boise State. Their conference doesn't allow them the opportunity to play a schedule like OU's. Yes, they are moving to a tougher conference, but even then the Mountain West is no Big 10/12, SEC, or PAC-10. What Boise needs is an invite to one of the big conferences.

But that will not happen, even though it should. The Boise/Idaho TV market is not large enough to warrant an offer from one of the Big 4 conferences I guess. On principal, Boise belongs in one, and the Big 12 needs a couple of extra teams. The Big 12 should invite Boise State and TCU, making the conference a stronger one, giving Boise and TCU the stage to prove themselves on. That's the right thing to do, we'll see if it ever happens. I doubt it, it's all about the $$$.
